About Inlet
Inlet is an iPhone app for people who carry some anxiety and want one quiet place to put it down. Each day you write a single line — a word, a sentence, whatever fits — and an AI that runs entirely on your iPhone reflects it back with a short, warm acknowledgment. Nothing you write is ever uploaded: there's no account, no ads, and no analytics SDK, so there's no server for your words to leak from in the first place. Inlet doesn't count streaks and never says anything about a day you skipped — the aim is one honest line, not a perfect record.
The story
Inlet is built by a solo indie developer. Most journaling apps ask for more than an anxious mind can reliably give on a bad night: long entries, guided multi-question prompts, a streak counter that turns a missed day into a small failure. Quite a few also ask for an account, which means some of the most private words a person might ever write end up sitting on someone else's server. Inlet is a small, deliberate attempt to remove all three of those frictions rather than to build a general wellness app with a journaling feature bolted on.
A few design principles guided every decision:
- Zero pressure. Inlet never counts or displays a streak. A day with nothing written is never called out, and reminders are off by default.
- One line is enough. A single input field with a soft, non-blocking length guide — the smallest possible barrier to writing something down.
- Never a diagnosis. The AI's reflection is empathy and mirroring only. It never suggests a diagnosis, gives advice, or tells you what you should do — that boundary is enforced directly in how the AI is instructed.
- Privacy first, not as a feature — as the foundation. Every entry, mood value, and AI reflection is generated and stored entirely on-device. There is no account and no server of ours to collect, sell, or leak that data, which matters more here than in almost any other app category.
Inlet is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. It's built for anxious minds, not as a substitute for professional care.
